We are going to learn about the structure of the Earth, how to recognise igneous rock and some of the uses of igneous rock. We will also learn how igneous rock is made, using ice and chocolate as a model!
Although all igneous rocks form from the solidifiion of molten material, they can have very different appearances and characteristics depending upon the composition of the original material and where exactly it cooled. Types of rock. There are three main types of rock, made in different ways. Sedimentary. Sedimentary rocks are formed when lots of "sediment" (small bits of rock, plants and animals) collects in rivers or on the sea floor. As the layers build up they get squashed and over time form rock.
